God, having written the below, I'm now having all kinds of Twin Peaks flashbacks, and realizing that those were my feral-fan days. I was a first-time fan without a fandom to play in. My first time of falling in love with a show, and I had only one other person I knew who was also watching it, to babble with the next day. My first time of realizing that greatness and suckitude (e.g., the whole Donna-and-James plotline) can exist side-by-side; my first time of discovering that even the best shows inevitably run of out steam, run off the rails, and tank. The Twin Peaks quotation list is a great place for these nostalgic wanderings.
Cooper: Diane, last night I dreamed I was eating a large, tasteless gumdrop, and awoke to discover I was chewing on one of my foam disposable earplugs. Perhaps I should consider moderating my nighttime coffee consumption.

Cooper: This morning, I will practice an extra twenty minutes of yogic discipline, after which the pain is banished to a cul-de-sac in a remote suburb of my conscious mind.
Cooper: In the pursuit of Laura's killer I have employed Bureau guidelines, deductive technique, Tibetan method, instinct, and luck. But now I find myself in need of something new, which for lack of a better word, I will call... magic.

Ah! I'm so glad you did your moments. I've been wanting to read other people's. (beam) And all this about Twin Peaks--I didn't know you'd been so into that show. You've stirred up memories. I was hooked big time when it was on. The opening montage, from the credits, with that music--pretty indelible stuff there. (I just have a bad memory, y'know, or I'd have included that in my list. (g)) The swinging traffic light in particular. Josie in the knob of the bedside table (or bureau?) kills me too. The whole scene when Cooper got shot--god, remember that? With the really old guy who. talks. like. this. coming in and out of the room while he lies there politely bleeding. (g)
The chocolate bunnies line--that sums up the show for me. I used that line a lot, back in the day.

Oh, Twin Peaks, good memories. some of my favorite story lines were centered around brothers Ben and Jerry.
"Marshmallows?!! Ben, WHERE are those HICKORY STICKS?"
Remember when Ben completely lost it and played out the Civil war with his little figurines and made audrey dress up in period costume?
And I'll never forget how *bad* I felt for Leo at the end of the series. Here was this completely unsympathetic character who beats up pretty little shelly and is just generally a nasty guy. But that last shot of Leo desperately trying to hold on to the twine holding up the cage of spiders hanging over his head...::shudder::
I was lucky enough to have friends who liked nothing better than to sit around and dissect Twin Peaks. This was (for me, anyway) before any of us had internet access in our homes, and TP is not a journey to take alone.

Twin Peaks *sigh* I didn't even understand what fandom was then but I had all the symptoms. I would gleefully settle down in the dark and try to soak all the eerie, deranged wonderfulness. I'm not sure how to describe it. *G*
My mother had an old sketch up of an owl and it's young on the opposite wall of the tv and... *shivers* Turning around after an episode with Bob had the same effect on my dreams as an all night horror movie fest. So I called it Portrait of Bob and Bob Jr.. I think that's why my mother took it down. *eg*
I felt horrible when I came on to online fandom to find out Twin Peaks was very old news and the fandom which had existed was now just a few sites, mostly dead. Still, you can mention it anywhere and get nostalgic responses. Not every one wil agree on what the series was truly about, but they all can remember their love and utter bafflement.
