Shaking, chain-smoking, chewing nails, emitting random shrieks of "EEEEeeee!"

I got an interview. For The Dream Job. OH my god.

And from our preliminary conversation, it sounds like they're wanting to move things fast. Which, *if* this were to pan out--not counting premature chickens, but *if* it did--well, then, I'd be having to move fast, I guess. EEEEeeeeee!

Anna, Merry, Lynn -- I'm going to be in Seattle next Sunday-Monday (2/2-3). E-mail me, OK? Maybe we can get together. (And, uh, if anyone has floor space where I could crash Sunday night, that would be cool. *g*)

And did I say EEEEEEeeee!!!!? ::lighting up another cig, pouring a slug of brandy with shaking hands::

A few random Angel thoughts which are neither particularly coherent nor spoilerly, but I'll cut 'em away anyway. more

Cold. Cold cold cold. Twelve below zero this morning, thirty-two-below windchill. Inside my house it's hovering around 65, and getting myself out from under the down comforter was something of an exercise in willpower. I have re-learned a small but key bit of winter wisdom--when it's this cold, I have to get up, run the hot water for a while, and then go back to bed for maybe fifteen minutes. That kick-starts the hot water heater, which has been sitting in the very cold basement sullenly cooling down all night. If I *don't* do that, I have at best a tepid shower, which is not good in an ambient temperature of 65 degrees. Doing this does mean, however, that one has to do the forcing-oneself-out-from-the-warm-cavern-of-bed twice, which sucks.

I remind myself, as I pick away at story edits, that -12 F, or -24 C, is the average daily *high* for January, in Inuvik. Heh. Yes, I continue to have a hard time seeing Ray feeling much enthusiasm for staying up there.

Miscellaneous good things that bring cheer to my personal universe:

--Anna has finished the new noir, and will post it soon. Rejoicing!

--Hetre Z posted a really wonderful new Hard Core Logo story. I haven't read any HCL in a while, but my golly. This is excellent.

--Taz has an LJ! I'm tempted to say something like "Now her wit, erudition, general braininess and glorious snark shall be available to a wider multitude, and yay!" except that that would probably make her nervous, so instead I shall just grin like a dog.

--I opened up the 260K (glurk) of outline, notes, and scene-fragments for the next story in line, the one that's been circling the runway for a couple of years, and found myself pleased with them, and excited at the prospect of diving in. This one will be fun, I think.

--I was actually able to get a next-day appointment for the dentist to take a look at my disintegrating crown, so with luck I will soon be rid of the recurring toothache. Plus this time I actually have dental insurance to cover the cost of the whole thing, and will not (as in the past) have to choose between freedom from pain and paying the rent.

--Although it is still rather brutally cold here (predicted windchills tonight in the thirty-below range), just as it seems to be over most of the north American continent, we are forecast to get back up into the thirties, or maybe even forties, by early next week. Thus, I have reason to slog forward.

I am sedulously ignoring various other not-good things, like war and rumors of war, massive budget deficits and their likely effect on my state, continuing lack of news about job prospects, and so on. Going for that accentuate-the-positive, eliminate-the-negative thing, at least until I've gotten myself through January.

12:37 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003. The story is done.

Well, OK, not *done* done, I still need to get complete beta comments and incorporate them, so it won't be posted for another week or two yet. But, basically? Done.

Two hundred and twenty-five pages, 110,181 words. Three years since I began it, with *many* stops and starts on the way. Dear god almighty.

I'm feeling a bit shaky. Too early in the day for the stiff drink I feel like having. Maybe I'll go clean a closet or something nice and simple-minded.

DONE!

[edited to add that I can't figure out how to get the timestamp on these entries corrected. Minor grrrr. Just add three hours to whatever time it shows.]
