Friday, March 28, 2003 Well, we did not end up getting the six to ten inches of snow that had been forecast. I am just fine with that, needless to say, and will gladly deal with the inch of slush. I finally got to see this week's Buffy episode last night (p'tooooeeeing once again in WFTC's general direction), and enjoyed it a great deal, not being particularly invested one way or the other in questions of canonical consistency as regards the nature of vampires, souls, etc. My only comment--not that I've read everyone else's reactions, but I'm surprised I haven't seen more people remarking on the one moment that really had me leaping up with huzzahs (white-fonted for spoilage): ...that scene with Buffy and Giles in the graveyard, where she flat-out admits that her season-5 decision to try to save Dawn at the expense of the rest of the world was wrong--that she wouldn't do it that way again. OK, I have waited TWO YEARS to hear that from her. It has griped my ass that that issue has never really been dealt with in the show, and I still think this is too little/too late, but hey. I'll take it. Spent some time this morning skimming through new war/politics threads on MetaFilter, a sure way to depress the crap out of myself. This link and thread were perhaps the most disquieting. To cheer myself up, I checked out the LJ of Kim Jong Il, which, OK, call me a goof but it made me laugh maniacally. And then Mimi Smartypants is always good for the uplift, and for the wacky links--my favorite today was the Baltimore Kinetic Sculpture Race photographs. Do *not* miss the mobile beaver lodge, complete with kinetic beaver. Seeing this as a chance to begin freeing myself from the sticky clutches of Bill Gates and his minions, I'd been looking around at iBooks and PowerBooks, new and used, here and there--going down to the Apple store and fondling the merchandise, checking the want ads... And then this morning, on eBay, I snapped up my new baby: a near-new iBook, with the RAM upgrade to 384MB, and the DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, and the Airport wireless card-- *and* the Airport base station!--all for under $850. Mine, all mine! And with luck I'll get it in time to bring to Connexions. I can watch DVDs on the plane! I can lounge around on the back deck this summer and surf the web! Yay me! (Hey, I figure, I almost never buy clothes, or CDs, I drive a paid-off clunker, I get almost all my books from the library, I haven't been to Europe since 1975 -- I deserve a new toy, right?)
